Tonight's dinner...

Made some spring rolls for dinner tonight...

...Made about ten or so. Some with rice noodles (thin, vermicelli-sized noodles), some with sushi rice. Some with crab, some with shrimp, and various combinations of basil, cilantro, avocado, chili garlic, carrots, zucchini, and green onions. I use(d) square wrappers rather than round ones, because, well, I find them much easier to wrap. Something about the geometry of folding squares rather than circles.
I have more pics I could upload, a step-by-step, but a lot of them are a little blurry. Anyway, to accompany the rolls, I made a quick stir-fry with some left-over veggies and noodles, and then some seared scallops (simple seasoning) drizzled with sesame oil.

It all came together pretty well. In retrospect I wish I had chopped more veggies for the stir-fry; it was a little heavy on the rice noodles and light on the veggies. But there was enough sauce for it to not seem like we were eating plain noodles.

Anyway, that was my dinner for the evening...

Open invitation...

By now you've all received (or will shortly, as soon as I gather more e-mail addresses) invitation to begin submitting to this blog. Make it so!
To kick things off, let me ask a question: what is your favorite recipe that you devised yourself? Not one from a cookbook or restaurant, but your own favorite original recipe? You don't have to enter the recipe itself, if you're worried about it being stolen from you. Just a brief description - "pecan-crusted halibut with fried thingamajigs" or something.

See if you can upload your responses. That way we can see if we're getting the technology right.
As it stands right now, I *think* that all of us can upload, and comment on each other's posts. Only I, as Grand Poobah, can edit or remove posts and comments. I think. I could be wrong.

You'll also notice that the layout is a bit bland. We can customize it any way we want. So let's start thinking about that. I'm open to suggestions, and if any of you are good with graphic design and want to literally design some layout pieces (titles, color schemes, etc.), go for it!
